Regional Primary Health Services

Regional Primary Health Services (RPHS) – formerly MAHS

Central Australia
 
This service aims toimprove the health of people living in regional communities by providing additional professional primary health services.  The service strives to assist General Practitioners (GP) in the multidisciplinary care of their clients by providing access to Allied Health professionals.  This is a free service to eligible clients.
 
GPNNT currently subcontracts the services of allied health professionals including:
·         Dietetics
·         Chiropractic
·         Counsillors
·         Exercise Physiology
·         Occupational Therapy
·         Physiotherapy
·         Podiatry
·         Speech Pathology
 
The services provided include individual or group treatment, case conferencing and care planning.  Group sessions may be in the form of secondary preventative/educational intervention. Occasional primary prevention/ health promotion work may be included subject to GPNNT’s approval.
 
Referral guidelines
All clients must meet the following criteria:
  • referred by their general practitioner
  • reside in rural and remote Central Australia and hold a Health Care Card
  • reside in their own homes, or the home of family or friends (may include boarding houses, caravan parks, retirement villages, community residential units)
  • can receive a maximum of five consultations per referral from a GP to a MAHS provider
  • Ongoing services are at the decision of the General Practitioner and request is made through new written referral after receiving the client feedback form from the Provider and re-assessing the client
  • the complaint requiring allied health professional’s intervention is of an acute episodic nature that is less than six months old.
Direct Treatment Services are not available to:
  • People who do not meet all of the eligibility criteria
  • People who are receiving nursing home level of care in a residential facility
  • People who are inpatients of a hospital
  • People who are already receiving, or are eligible to receive, the allied health service provided by the contractor under MBS
  • The cost of orthotics will not be covered
  • GPNNT will not fund ‘no shows’.
