Rural High School Visits
Northern Territory Rural High School Visits (RHSV) Program
Central Australia and the Top End

Delivered to more than 4000 high school students at 130 school visits by 120 university students.
In 2013 Rural High School Visits will continue to promote careers in health
to the potential future health workforce of the NT.
Participation
Do you have what it takes to join one of the 2 teams of 6 University students who fly to the Northern Territory and inspire young people to think about becoming a health professional?
Are you keen to share your journey by demonstrating your skills and sharing a personal account of the decisions and influences that led you to choose tertiary study in a health discipline?
Are you enthusiastic about presenting the RHSV program to students and encouraging further study in health whilst learning what it is like to be a health professional working in the Northern Territory?
The program selects 12 undergraduate or post graduate medical, nursing and allied health students from across Australia to visit Northern Territory junior and senior high school students to promote further education and health career opportunities via workshops that:
- encourage students to remain at school
- provide an overview of different health career paths
- discuss ways that students can overcome perceived barriers to participation in higher education
- provide advice on managing the transition to higher education
The Top End RHSV program will run from Saturday 27 April – Saturday 4 May 2013.
The Central Australia RHSV program will run from Saturday 18 May – Saturday 25 May 2013.
Flight and accommodation expenses are covered by the RHSV program with participants responsible for the cost of food and social activities. The program relies on a cooperative team approach and can receive national media coverage. Participants must consent to be photographed and filmed during the course of the week and, under supervision, provide comments for media interviews.
The dates of travel for the program are fixed. It is the responsibility of participants to seek leave from their course or studies.
